SDK commercial licence

1. What this licence covers

This licence is granted by MapMap AI Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (“MapMap”, “we”), and governs the software development kits we publish: MapMapKit for iOS (via the Mapmapai/mapmap-ios distribution repository and the binary MapMapKit pod), ai.mapmap:core for Android (Maven Central and GitHub Packages), @mapmap/maps, @mapmap/core and @mapmap/react-native on npm, together with their documentation, sample code and updates (collectively “the SDKs”). It is the licence referenced by those published packages.

This page does not govern the hosted API (see the terms of service) or self-hosted deployments of the MapMap server stack (see section 7). If you have a signed agreement with MapMap, that agreement prevails over this page to the extent they differ.

2. Licence grant

Subject to these terms, MapMap grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide licence to install the SDKs, integrate them into applications you develop, and distribute them solely as embedded in those applications.

Production use of MapMap services through the SDKs (hosted API calls, and installing or updating territory packages beyond the published evaluation allowance) requires a valid API key on an appropriate plan, or a written agreement with MapMap. Evaluation use is free within the published free-tier and evaluation-download allowances.

3. Restrictions

You must not: redistribute the SDKs on a standalone basis, as part of another SDK, developer tool or service, or in any way that lets third parties use them outside your application; modify the SDKs or create derivative works of them, except configuration and use of documented extension points; remove or alter copyright, attribution or licence notices; work around metering, quotas, key issuance limits or the cryptographic verification of territory packages; or use the SDKs to develop a product whose primary purpose is to substitute for the SDKs or MapMap services.

Decompilation or reverse engineering is permitted only to the extent a licence restriction cannot lawfully override it (for example interoperability rights under UK and EU software law), and only after asking us first: interoperability information is normally available on request at hello@mapmap.ai.

4. Territory packages and map data

Territory packages are cryptographically signed bundles of offline map and routing data. The package format, build pipeline and signing infrastructure are proprietary to MapMap. The underlying map data derives from OpenStreetMap and remains subject to the Open Database Licence (ODbL) 1.0; our handling of it as a Derivative Database, including the published recreation recipe, is described in the documentation.

Anything your application renders or republishes from MapMap map data must credit “© OpenStreetMap contributors” with a link to openstreetmap.org/copyright. Territory packages carry their own attribution manifests. Nothing in this licence restricts rights the ODbL grants you in the map data itself; the restrictions in section 3 apply to the SDKs, the package format and the signing infrastructure, not to ODbL-licensed data.

5. Open-source components

The SDKs incorporate third-party open-source components under their own licences (MIT, BSD, Apache-2.0 and similar). Their notices ship with each SDK distribution. Nothing in this licence overrides the terms of those third-party licences.

6. Updates and versions

This licence applies to every version of the SDKs we publish, unless a version ships with a superseding licence. We may update this page; material changes will be posted here with a revised date and apply to SDK versions released after the change. Versions you have already integrated remain governed by the licence text in effect when they were released.

7. Self-hosting the MapMap stack

The MapMap server stack (the gateway, routing engine configuration, map factory, territory build and signing pipeline, and the operational tooling) is proprietary software available for self-hosted deployment under a separate written agreement only. This licence does not grant any right to run, copy or possess the server stack.

If you need MapMap on your own infrastructure (for data-boundary, air-gapped, sovereignty or scale reasons) contact hello@mapmap.ai. Self-host agreements cover source access, deployment rights, signed territory-data subscriptions, updates and support.

8. Intellectual property and feedback

The SDKs are licensed, not sold. MapMap and its licensors retain all rights not expressly granted. If you send us feedback, suggestions or bug reports, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free right to use them without restriction or obligation to you.

9. No warranty

The SDKs are provided as is and as available. We do not warrant that they are error-free, or that routes, restrictions or compliance outputs are complete or correct for every road, vehicle or load. Navigation output is an aid, not a substitute for driver judgement or legal compliance: the driver and operator remain responsible for observing signage, vehicle limits and applicable dangerous-goods regulations. To the fullest extent permitted by law, all implied warranties and conditions are excluded.

10. Limitation of liability

Nothing in this licence excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Subject to that, we are not liable for loss of profit, revenue, data or goodwill, or for any indirect or consequential loss; and our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the SDKs in any twelve-month period is limited to the amounts you paid to MapMap in that period, or one hundred pounds sterling if greater.

11. Termination

This licence terminates automatically if you materially breach it and, where the breach is remediable, do not remedy it within fourteen days of notice. On termination you must stop distributing new copies of applications embedding the SDKs; copies already distributed to end users may continue to run. Sections 4, 5, 8, 9, 10 and 12 survive termination.

12. Governing law

This licence, and any dispute or claim arising out of it, is governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
