Delete your Tellway data

1. What we hold about you

Tellway has no password and no profile. The one personal detail it asks for is an email address. If you gave us one, our servers hold it with the licence key issued to your phone.

Held with that email address: the record of when the key was issued, and the IP address and user agent of that request; the key itself, stored as a hash; and the key's day-by-day usage counts (which kind of request, how many, and whether it succeeded), which enforce its allowance.

Not held: we keep no location history, no route history and no search history linked to you.

2. How to delete your account

In the app: open Settings and choose Delete my account. After you confirm, your Tellway account is deleted on our servers straight away and the app signs you out. If the app cannot reach us at that moment, it tells you nothing was deleted and offers to try again or to email us instead.

By email: write to support@mapmap.ai from the email address you gave the app, and ask us to delete your Tellway data. Sending it from that address is how we know the request is yours. A person at MapMap carries out each emailed request by hand, and we act on it within one month, as the main privacy policy commits to. We reply to the same address when it is done. If you also want your MapMap Nav data deleted, say so in the same email.

This deletes Tellway only. MapMap Nav, our other app, has its own licence key even when you use the same email address, and deleting one app leaves the other working. To delete MapMap Nav as well, see deleting your MapMap Nav data.

3. What deleting removes

Your Tellway licence key is revoked straight away, so it stops working, together with any earlier Tellway key issued to the same email address. The app on your phone goes back to its first-run screen, and if you carry on using it a new key is issued in the ordinary way.

If you gave us an email address and nothing else of ours uses it, the address is deleted from our servers. Deleting in the app also erases the IP address and user agent recorded when your keys were issued.

If the same email address also has a MapMap Nav account or a MapMap API key, that account keeps working, so the address, and the IP address and user agent recorded when it signed up, are kept for it. They are deleted when the last of them is deleted too.

4. What is kept, and for how long

The day-by-day usage counts of a revoked key are kept for up to 24 months, as evidence for billing and for investigating abuse, and are then deleted or anonymised. The record that the terms were accepted when the key was issued is kept for as long as that agreement could be relevant; when you delete in the app and nothing else of ours uses your email address, only its time is kept and the IP address and user agent are erased. Both are set out in the main privacy policy.

5. What is on your phone

Everything else the app keeps is on your phone and never comes to us: its settings, the list of trips you have driven, any offline area you downloaded, and, during a drive, the route you are on and how far along it you are, so the drive can resume if the app is closed; the app removes that itself once the drive is over. Sign out, in Settings, removes the email address and key from the phone. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on the phone.

On Android, your phone's own backup to Google may hold the app's settings and trip list; you can manage that in your phone's settings (Settings, Google, Backup). On iPhone none of it is in the backup. Neither backup ever comes to us.
